The downloaded video file is not a divx file-problem

Please help

I am running Windows 8.1 in Chrome, but I have also tried FF, which came with the same problem.

Every video I try to watch, shows like Revenge, Castle, Grimm, The 100 etc, always comes with the same error. I use mainly the DVD-rip quality because the sound is too low using HD.

But every time I try to use the DivX-player I get the error "The downloaded file is not a divx file". I have the newest version of DivX.

What is wrong, and how can I fix it?

Try install a codecpack, like k-lite, it works for me, and most of the time divx player works for me.
Else there is the VLC player, you can crank the volume up to 200%.
When i direct you to a videohost that you can't download from, use a program like jdownloader http://jdownloader.org/download/index?s=lng_en
Else try this addon for firefox, it can download many things also. http://www.downthemall.net/
Also Internet Download Manager does a good job (IDM) http://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/

Thank you for your reply.

I had AC3-filter, but I tried to install k-lite to see if that worked, but no. I can't see any series still.

I sometimes try to use the VLC player, but I almost every time get the videos with flaws. The picture gets "grey" and sometimes stops a second before it starts again normally. But throughout the video it has moments when the "grey" and stopping is back. It's annoying.

Any other suggestions please?

The reason you get the error message is because it is a file the divx player can not play. That is self-explanatory in the error message. You need to install a web player that will play said files, (vlc is the popular choice), or simply download and play in player that can handle the file type.

Try switching web players!

The same problem used to haunt me and I just figured out that on billionuploads you can switch web players just under the web player itself and to the right.

I couldn't locate a button that does the same thing at movreel, though.

Return to “Win8”
