divx keeps saying to install when i already have it installe

i have used vlc player for over a year and today every time i go to a source and try to play a movie it says i need to install divx. so i installed all of divx and whem i go to play a movie it says to install divx again , when i already have it installed . it wont let me download at all now . i need help please. i am running windows 8.1 chrome help me please
