The one filehost thread to rule them all...

OK...

What I'd like to do is get as much of the community's help as possible...

Everyone is volunteering different file hosts that could possibly be used by icefilms.

This is great, but what I'd like to do is for us all to test them under a simulated load condition...

For example, I'll upload a 360 MB (about equivalent to a 1 hour TV show in size) public domain video to file host "X", then everyone try to download the file from file host "X" AT THE SAME TIME, AS A FREE USER and report your results to this thread. The more people hammering the host, the better the results will be, so get as many people to help out with this as possible.

In order to set the timing, we'll download the file at 12 midnight, 6 AM, 12 noon and 6 PM according to what time it is in New York, New York. USA. That should, more or less, cover possible peak periods around the world. Don't worry if you can't download during each test time. Just do it as best you can.

Keep track of how long it took and what speed you got at what time. Post your results here in the thread.

Once we collate the data, we should know for sure which hosts will and won't work for the heavy load we'll be putting on them.

So, step 1... Which filehosts do you want to test?

List them here in this thread... I'll alphabetize them and we can do a batch of them per day. In a week or so, we'll know which ones will work the best for us.
Now I've got a link... What the hell do I do with it?

And the others requested...

Shragle - Even with running the site through a translator, was still unable to upload a file to it!
wikiupload - no such thing as a free account... auto billing through paypal
ifile.it - no anonymity! have to sign in using some kind of account (facebook, google, yahoo, etc)
filedropper - not a chance if it's as bad as they say!
OVFile - testing this round.

what lobstercrotch has been posting that hasn't been tested...

depositfiles - interesting...

And a few other hosts I've come across...

Netload.in -
Turbobit -
Exabit -

The test parameters are as follows:

1 - The times listed in the post for synchronizing the start of the download test for each filehost are in 24 hr (Military) time based on Eastern Standard Time (EST).
2 - Due to having an unknown number of testers, anyone willing to test must download the file twice, with the second download immediately following the first (or as close as possible).
3 - Keep track of the start/end times of your downloads and the max/min speeds you get. Crappy results are as important as good results.
4 - Add any comments about the downloads to your reply. ie: speeds fluctuated badly
5 - Please post your results in the same thread as the post for the file you downloaded. DO NOT POST YOUR RESULTS IN A NEW THREAD OR IN THE "ONE FILEHOST THREAD TO RULE THEM ALL" THREAD.
6 - Please copy/paste the form in the first post of the thread and fill out the information. This will help make the results easier to read/tabulate.

The file we will be using is Ninja Death 1.

Why you ask?

Because:

A - It's Public Domain
B - It's legal
C - It's about Ninjas Dammit!

For those folks having issues with figuring out what time it is...

The batch of hosts being tested this 24 hour period will be:

(These are links to the testing posts!)

No further tests scheduled until I find some decent hosts to test!

BayFiles bans files once they've been proven to break copyright, not to good if you ask me.

For shows under 200mb's MediaFire might be the best choice, upload them with an account and they can last forever.

I had a look around a good few filehosts and here is a list I have came up with. These sites are commonly used by other video hosting sites and some look quite good although it is up to the wider community which ones suit them.

180Upload (This is my favourite)
Mediafire
XvidStage
UploadC & Zalaa (Are these the same site?)
VidBux
SlingFile
MovReel
FreakShare

Have a look at them for yourselves and see if any of them are good enough.

I do not know that in todays climate that any file host is going to be a safe bet for the long term. Multipul hosts means multipul paid memberships....eventually.

Having a core group of uploaders with paid memberships to multipul hosts....then a number of free leech sites.....I do not know.

Leeching is working very well for me. A very small learning curve was involved.

pretty similar to mediafire with the 200mb limit... and crazyfast speeds. (max for me)
and they have "Automatic file splitting - Added in case of file size exceeding 200MB."

someone could try if this works with avis too... (Uploader Tool)

I have done a few tests myself and come to the conclusion that http://www.uploadc.com/ is a brilliant fast website to stream TV shows of up to about 400Mb
