videos are squished into the left half of the screen

So I went to play a 3d movie (with my 2d monitor) thinking it would just play it in 2d and instead of gave me 2 pictures side by side with each one being squished.
So I closed that and now when I go to use a normal movie its doing the same thing but the right half is just black and the left is all squished up. When I change the aspect ratio is still only uses the left half of the screen.

How can I fix this and is there a way to play 3d videos where only 1 half of the video displays in a normal aspect ratio.

That is how a 3D movie should look on a 2D monitor.

It's just the left and right pictures combined to fit in the same frame of video

There is no reason that anything else should look that way though...

In all respects, other that the two images in one, it's just a standard video file.

What program are you trying to use to watch the video?

I have two players linked in the second post of the 3D thread for playing 3D videos so you can just watch it as 2D using either the left or right side of the image.

Sounds weird to have it affect normal videos. Reboot?!

Not sure I would suggest bothering with trying to play 3d videos in 2d. You'd essentially be wasting 1/2 the data, so I might assume the file size could be twice as large, the quality 1/2 less, or a combination. Plus such a hassle!

Im using vlc to stream the videos everything was fine until I opened a 3d movie, which looked like your screen shot. But now regular videos are treated like that too only the right half is just a black screen. Like it thinks everything is trying to be 3d.

I tried to reboot a few times. And ya I wont bother trying to view any 3d movies anymore.

And just ran in to something weird. Im using UltraMon since I have my tv hooked up to my pc as well and it works great for 2 monitors but when I turn off the secondary monitor it shows the video fine. But when its on it goes back to squishing the video in to the left half. Oh and I was using ultramon before I had this issue happen and vlc played everything fine on either monitor until the 3d video incident.

Actually, they are quite good...

Amazing what can be done!

Plus with files such as these, you're able to "futureproof" yourself.

They are working on 3D support inside VLC, maybe there is a conflict between ultramon and VLC?

Dunno for sure, I don't use ultramon so I couldn't tell you!

So is there some easy setting I can change to make it display just the left half in normal ratio?

Have you tried re-installing vlc? or you could try, go to preferences in vlc and at the bottom of the preferences

window there is a button that says (Reset Preferences) hit that and it should set vlc back to the original settings,

maybe that will work.

Good luck :)

So I tried resetting preferences and settings, that didn't work.
Then I tried uninstalling it and clearing everything out with ccleaner. Reinstalled it and still get the same problem. This is messed up.
Guess I wont be using vlc again any time soon, not a huge deal since I only used it to stream off this site but its nice not to have to wait for things to download sometimes.

you could try installing an earlier version of vlc n see if that cures it, i use version 1.1.11

http://www.oldapps.com/VLC_Player.php?old_vlc=6123

cuz i think it works better than the newest 2.0.1 (for me anyways).

Or it may have somthing to do with the "Preferences/video/display/output" settings.
in vlc it is usually set to default, click on the dropdown bar and you should
see a list something like eg:

Default
Dummy video output function
XVideo extension video output
OpenGL video output
ASCII-art video output
Image video output
X11 video output
Color ASCII art video output.
Direct X 2D
Direct X 3D

try changing it from Default to one of the others like OpenGL or Direct X 2D. (you can always reset it all back to default again)
http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=99579

Or it may have something to do with the Graphics card settings on your pc that may have changed when you tried to play the 3D movie and not changed back. (try re-setting them)

Or try disabling (Accelerated video output/Overlay video output)
in Vlc, Preferences/ (tick the all settings box at bottom) /Video, n see if that does anything.

And dont forget to Click the (save changes) button if any of this works For you.

Other than that i dont know sorry.

You could try uninstalling/reinstalling ultramon as well.

Under tools, then preferences, then video, then display, I changed to Windows GDI Video Output and the DirectX Display device was changed to display and then I was good to go, I got back full screen. Try and let us know.
