Locked .mkv files 'open in explorer'

Any recent .mkv file I've downloaded has been unalterable and immovable once it's on my desktop, saying that the file "can't be moved because it's open in explorer".
I've been able to delete the files by killing the explorer process from the command prompt and manually going about it, but it's a pain in the ass workaround at best.

I am curious as to what locks these files, and if there is an easier way to go about fixing the issue than deleting, re-downloading, and praying.

Thanks in advance!
If you don't trust a link or filehost, I strongly suggest the Web of Trust addon for Firefox.
I link nothing I haven't downloaded first for myself without warning.

The most recent example would be the HD version of Vikings: Vikings.S01E05.720p._.x264-KILLERS.
Sitting on my desktop, waiting to be deleted through the command prompt.

Though, this isn't the only time it's happened, nor is it the only file. It's always a .mkv, though. Not sure if that helps.

Edit: Also, it's generally only releases from KILLERS and/or EVOLVE.

Been covering this in another post viewtopic.php?f=24&t=95127

It is from what I have read is in the way the file is encoded.

You can re-mux it with MKVtoolnix and it will fix the errors, or at least this has been my experience.

You can use unlocker to edit, remove, delete, or there are pleanty of free programs to deal with the problem files. You can find a list of these programs in the above post.

Cool beans - Thanks, Way.

As far as Unlocker goes, I tried it last night and it did nothing.

Thanks again for the prompt responses, guys.

And not to keep this going, but my main concern here would be to figure out exactly what is causing the lock.
If I can prevent that, I wouldn't need all these workarounds.

Ok just read another blog on this problem and it really made sense so in short windows is trying to index the file and make a thumbnail. So it is running even if your not playing it, the 2 fixes is to turn of thumbnails in folder options or install a codec pack to handle the thumbnail error.

So it is the way the file is encoded/indexed so windows hangs trying to figure out the file.

And another suggestion I read was to turn off indexing under properties/advanced, and untick the 2 things that are checked Archiving and Indexing.

I haven't tried any of these yet, but I may tomorrow.

Hmm. I've already deleted the file in question, but I'll try these suggestions on the next one.

Thanks again, Way.
