While there is growing concern about corporate power in the US, and proposals to limit things like
corporate right to free speech will fail. A corporation is a legal entity. A legal person.
The advantage of the corporation is shielding owners and shareholders from legal liability for
actions the corporation take.
There is no stopping world control by corporations.

Friends,

Net Neutrality is under attack: Big Telecom is ramming a resolution through the Senate to undermine existing Net Neutrality regulations and ban the FCC from enacting protections in the future.

Will you urge your Senators to stand strong? Just click here:

http://act.demandprogress.org/letter/ne ... e=auto-taf

As The Hill newspaper notes, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) "said she will push for a Senate vote on a resolution of disapproval to negate the regulations this fall. A similar vote passed the House earlier this year but stalled in the Senate."

Please click here to urge your Senators to support Net Neutrality:

Thanks!

We Really need to get this out!

Thanks for the link Russ. Net neutrality prevents ISPs from blocking sites like MU and Icefilms.

I will continue with my Weekly calls and letters to my senators and congress men. Like I have been for about 4 months now. IF this shit was going down 200 years ago, we would have a freaking Rebellion.

URGENT ACTION NEEDED: New Internet Blacklist Bill Could Shut Down Twitter And YouTube! The rumor all over Capitol Hill is that the House version of the Internet Blacklist Bill will be introduced this week. Our allies on the Hill say the bill’s so bad that it could effectively destroy Youtube, Twitter, Facebook and other sites that rely on user-generated content by making the sites’ owners legally responsible for everything their users post. Will you ask your Congressmember not to cosponsor the legislation, at least until they’ve heard our concerns?

NET NEUTRALITY IS UNDER ATTACK, EMAIL YOUR SENATORS NOW: Big Telecom is ramming a resolution through the Senate to undermine existing Net Neutrality regulations and ban the FCC from enacting protections in the future. urge your Senators to stand strong.

PLUS, URGE YOUR LAWMAKERS TO PROTECT ONLINE PRIVACY: A new snooping bill forceS Internet providers to track and retain customer info — including your name, address, phone number, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and IP addresses.

Shut down Twitter and YouTube? Where's that picture of monkeys flying out of my ass..

All seriousness aside, I simply can't see that happening. There is too much money wrapped up in those sites and too many people that use them to have them fail. I'll take a more proactive and investigative stance on this however, as this is the first I've heard.

Been thinking about this a bit, and there is a way around it: proxies outside the country blacklisting sites. Simply get a proxy setup and have your traffic routed by a non-blacklisted server, and they can allow your traffic to the final blacklisted destination. Sure, it would slow down traffic and probably end up costing money in the form of subscriptions, but it would work.

I still don't see this as passing, it is just too heavy handed. The first one was shot down in short order, and this one is actually taking stronger measures. What makes them think if they keep changing the same old stuff it will ever get through? Companies that think they are losing revenue need to approach this in another way, not use the government and their influence to change law.

Messing with out right to free information (copyrighted or not) is absolutely a breach of the first amendment.

Russ,

IT'S ALIVE!

But, first of all: GREAT WORK. The House Blacklist Bill was introduced as expected yesterday -- but with only a handful of sponsors.

There's little doubt that this is because of the ruckus we've all raised together -- especially the 50,000+ emails we sent in this week asking our lawmakers to refuse to sponsor the bill.

Now that it's been introduced, will you ask your lawmakers to VOTE AGAINST the House version of the Blacklist Bill?

The bad news: The bill is a nightmare.

The rumors were true. The new Blacklist Bill could effectively destroy YouTube, Twitter, and other sites that rely on user-generated content by making the sites' owners legally responsible for content their users post.

It could shut down music storage lockers and other cloud-based products.

And it also includes provisions that would make it a felony to stream unlicensed content -- including cover band performances, karaoke videos, video game play-throughs, and more.

Will you click here to ask your Congress member to oppose this legislation?

It's a grab-bag of Halloween goodies for a handful of big corporations -- but for us it's Frankenstein's monster, cobbled together from half-born bills, set to suffocate free speech and innovation and terrorize consumers and Internet users.

Please help send the House version of PROTECT IP to its grave. Click here.

Thanks, yet again.

The Demand Progress team.

PS: As you know, the more people we bring to the table, the more likely Congress is to pay attention. Will you ask your friends to join the cause?

We're being censored!

Russ,

Irony Alert: The House is holding hearings on sweeping Internet censorship legislation this week -- and it's censoring the opposition! The bill is backed by Hollywood, Big Pharma, and the Chamber of Commerce, and all of them are going to get to testify at the hearing.

But the bill's opponents -- tech companies, free speech and human rights activists, and hundreds of thousands of Internet users -- won't have a voice.

Will you click here to demand that opponents of the Blacklist Bill be allowed to testify -- it'll just take a second.

As if you need a reminder: This is the most offensive Internet legislation we've seen in years.

It will give the government and corporations new powers to block Americans' access to sites that are accused of copyright infringement, force sites like YouTube to go to new lengths to police users' contributions, and put people in prison for streaming certain content online.

The bill will wreck much of what's great about the Internet, and this sham of a hearing represents everything that's broken about our political system.

Will you click here to demand that opponents of the Blacklist Bill be allowed to testify this week?

And we keep pressing forward,

-The Demand Progress team
