What video converter to recommend

hiya i've downloaded some MKV files that i want to convert to AVI (or maybe MP4) files to view and burn it to my DVD+-RW discs. any recommendations please i would highly appreciate. thanks.

I think I use Any Video Converter as well, I can't be 100% sure though.
Currently not at home :s
Choose life.
Choose a job.
Choose a starter home.
Choose dental insurance, leisure wear and matching luggage.
Choose your future.
But why would anyone want to do a thing like that?
I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin' else.
