awhile back all hd movies were in mp4/avi format and played fine on home theater hardware, now it seems more and more all movies are going mkv format, i tried using xilisoft ultimate to convert mkv to appropriate formats for PS3/android but it shows unfit for file selected and cannot be converted to anything but mp3. was wondering what app do you guys use to convert your movies to ps3 compatable formats.

The PS3 will play all the MKV SD/HD format files if you stream them to your PS3 through your home network from your PC using

PS3 Media Server or Windows media player Server, that's all i do and have no issues.

But strangely, if you just put the MKV files on a flash drive the PS3 will not recognize them at all.

And i use WinAVI to convert if i need to, Which is not very often. :)

If I have to convert/re-encode for others I use Avidemux

Just to add one more converter to the mix, I've used Any Video Converter to convert MKV & MP4 files to Xvid format. I haven't tried it with HD, but it has worked fine for me with SD files.

Here's the download link: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/anyvidcon.html
Note the FYI warning about optional 3rd party promo software during install.

This SHN converter is also a good choice: http://www.videoconverterfactory.com/ti ... erter.html
It supports convering kinds of video and audio formats and the output quality is good as I can compresse the video to smaller size but there is no any diffrence on image quality.
I also use it to download music and video clips.
