video converter question

I downloaded some AC3 .avi files and, of course, they won't play on WMP, although I tried installing several different filters. It's on a work PC so I can't install another video player so I'm hoping someone can suggest a video converter. I've tried Any Video Converter, but the conversions are double the size, even though I'm converting back into .avi format and the sound is tinny. I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks.

You can download VLC portable http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/vlc_portable
Just extract/install it, and take it with you.
When i direct you to a videohost that you can't download from, use a program like jdownloader http://jdownloader.org/download/index?s=lng_en
Else try this addon for firefox, it can download many things also. http://www.downthemall.net/
Also Internet Download Manager does a good job (IDM) http://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/

I have AppGeeker video converter. It can convert what video you have to whatever you want with a reasonable size.

http://www.appgeeker.com/how-to/convert-avi-to-mp4-mac.html

In output configuration, you can set the size to "Small Size" or "Standard".

You can try . Just download the program, and add AVI video to the software. Then, choose WMV format from the Output Format Column. Finally press "Convert" button. In a while, the conversion will finish.

As for me, I'm used to convert iTunes videos with Media Converter for Windows. If you are iTunes fans, you may have know all iTunes movies/TV shows are encrypted with fairplay DRM protection, it can be played on Apple devices only. Even you have paid for these videos, there is no right for you to re-encode or share it to other devices. Fortunately, now we can use such a tool to remove DRM from iTunes and convert videos from M4V to MP4 with all audio tracks, subtitles, including AC3, 5.1 Dolby surround audio, cc, etc. without hampering the quality at 30x faster speed.

As for the best video converter, especially for converting movies and TV shows purchased and rented from iTunes store, the best DRM converter I using is iTunes M4V DRM Removal Tool, which can remove DRM from iTunes M4V and convert iTunes DRM M4V to other common audio and video formats, like MP3, AVI, MP4, MPEG, MOV, AVI, MKV, and more so that I can enjoy iTunes purchases and rentals on any device according to my requirement.
For the detail tutorial, you can visit this source page: How to Remove DRM from iTunes Videos Losslessly.
